Indoor Air Quality


Indoor pollution sources that release gases or particles into the air are the primary cause of indoor air quality problems in Australian workplaces. Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor pollutant levels by not bringing in enough outdoor air to dilute emissions from indoor sources and by not carrying indoor air pollutants out of the workplace. High temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of some pollutants.

Whether a particular source of pollution causes indoor air quality problems depends on a number of variables including the nature of the contaminant, the rate of contaminant emission from the pollution source, the ventilation rates of the building, and the HVAC system.

Prensa has experienced and qualified occupational hygienists who are able to undertake investigations of air quality problems and advise on suitable remedies where problems are identified.  As part of this process we are able to measure a range of pollutants commonly found in the indoor environment including:

  • Microbiological contaminants (mould, yeasts, fungi)
  • Chemical contaminants (hydrocarbons, ozone, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, etc) and
  • Physical parameters (temperature, humidity, radiation, noise)
